Movie synopsis
I am. I always have been. I always will be. Apparently, this is a highly controversial statement. My existence is a statement. My existence is infinitely debated on the grounds of politics, science, and religion. This debatability lies in what I am not. I am not what was ascribed to me at birth. I am not the limited role assigned to me the moment I was brought into this world. I am not what was expected of me. My existence is seen as a delusion, a disorder, a threat. And yet, I cannot be erased. I will continue being me. There is simply no other way.
In Turkey, I am a Palestinian lesbian university student, grieving my home in Gaza as I endure state violence in my current environment. In Germany, I am a Kurdish transgender activist, exiled from Turkey, confronting racism and exclusionary feminism in spaces where I once sought refuge. In Estonia, I am a German photographer who, after more than fifty years of living as a man, begins the journey of exploring her female identity.
I am everywhere. The true worth of my being is not tied to anyone’s awareness, denial, or appraisal – it is inherent to me and inseparable from me. This documentary film is my portrait. It combines some of the many individual stories that embody me. It embraces some pieces of my being in this present moment in history, honours my past, and welcomes my future.
