Public Events

The RESIST Project officially launched in October 2022 in Dublin. The inaugural event gathered numerous stakeholders from civil society, media, community groups, and academia. We presented the project, and were thrilled to receive numerous messages of support, welcoming RESIST and anticipating its outputs.

As part of a UCD lunchtime series for academic staff, Kath Browne spoke about the project and about receiving Horizon Europe funding for RESIST.

The RESIST team organised an event (23/04/2024) to promote findings from the first stage of the project. During the first year, we mapped media and parliamentary discourses of ‘anti-gender’ mobilisations across Polish, British, Swiss, Hungarian, and European Parliament’s cases. The event was recorded, and the video is available here and also under the ‘Podcasts & Videos’ list.

Members of the RESIST team (Gavan Titley, Sheryl Lynch, Roberto Kulpa, and Lati Akyuz) presented at the international conference: “Contesting 21st Century B/Orders” organised by the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION at the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, September 06-08, 2023.

Roberto Kulpa presented the findings from the first stage of the project to the members of the UK-based academic trade union (UCU, Universities and Colleges Union) and other attending researchers, at the UCU Equality Research Conference 2024. A lively conversation followed showing resonances and importance of the findings to the audiences.

Katya Filep and Roberto Kulpa talked about findings of the first stage of the project to the international audiences gathered at the 7th European Geographies of Sexualities Conference, Brighton (UK), September 2024. The theme ‘Uncomfortable Spaces’ was a perfect fit and focal point to talk and think with fellow researchers about problems associated with expanding ‘anti-gender’ politics and mobilisations.

Latife Akyuz's presentation explored how displaced intellectuals and activists confront anti-gender mobilisations, highlighting their strategies for building resistance in the context of exile. It emphasised the transformative potential of displacement in creating new forms of intellectual subjectivity and examined the vulnerabilities, challenges, and agency of exiled communities in fostering anti-fascist, feminist, and anti-racist responses across Europe.

Ekaterina Filep presented the findings from the WP2 report on Switzerland during a workshop organised by our sister project UNTWIST. Katya's discussion highlighted key themes surrounding the construction of media and parliamentary anti-gender discourses in Switzerland, emphasizing how these narratives contribute to shaping seemingly innocuous spaces that mask deeper issues.

An in-person event to launch the Irish case study findings in was held in central Dublin. Three representatives of LGBT/civil society organisations gave a short reflection on the findings, followed by a discussion with attendees.

Stefanie Boulila presented the results of the German case study at a public lecture organised as part of the 16 Days against Violence against Women. The event was titled "Antifeministische und queerfeindliche Anfeindungen als Gefahr für die Demokratie" (“Anti-feminist and anti-queer hostility as a threat to democracy”) and took place in Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany).

Through Latife Akyuz's presentation, "Exiles from Turkey and Northern Kurdistan: Facing Anti-Gender Politics and Building Resistance in Europe," workshop participants explored how exiled communities develop anti-fascist, feminist, and anti-racist strategies for collective resistance and future action.

Roberto Kulpa, Ekaterina Filep, and Adrianna Zabrzewska organised and presented the RESIST project and its findings during a collaborative workshop with scholars and activists from the region, hosted together with the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Acadmy of Sciences.
